Custom AI agent for Shopify: orders, stock questions, and quieter back-office chat

Mon AI can build a custom Shopify agent that answers stock and order questions, drafts customer replies, and alerts staff when a real exception hits the store.
ShopifyShopify already runs the catalog and checkout. The extra work sits around it: “Is this still in HCMC?”, “Can I change the size?”, “The tracking hasn’t moved,” plus a staff group chat that fills up every flash sale.
A custom AI agent from Mon AI can talk to the Shopify Admin API and to the channels where customers and staff already are — store chat, email, Slack, Telegram — so routine order questions do not wait for someone to open the admin.
What the agent can do with Shopify
Tied to products, inventory, orders, and your customer channels, the agent can:
- Answer live stock and variant questions from the actual inventory, not from a screenshot last week.
- Look up an order by email or order number and explain status in plain language — including Vietnamese or English, matching the customer.
- Draft a reply for “where is my order?” with the carrier link, then let a human send it if the delay looks ugly.
- Flag exceptions: payment captured but fulfillment stuck, address that will bounce, SKU at zero while the page is still selling.
- Open an internal task when a customer asks for a cancel, swap, or refund — those stay in a review lane unless you explicitly allow auto-actions.
- Brief the duty staff in Slack or Telegram during a sale: what is selling out, which orders need a person.
This is not “AI writes product blogs onto Shopify.” Most stores do not need that. They need faster, accurate answers around real orders.
How the integration usually works
flowchart LR A[Customer chat or email] --> B{Mon AI Shopify agent} B --> C[(Shopify orders / inventory)] B --> D[Draft or send reply] B --> E[Staff exception channel]- The agent uses a custom app or Admin API token, scoped to what it must read (and rarely write).
- Customer messages arrive from the store widget, Gmail, Messenger, or a hotline note your team pastes in.
- The agent matches the customer to Shopify, reads order and stock, and replies or drafts.
- Writes — tag an order, add an internal note, hold fulfillment — only happen inside the permissions you set.
Your theme, apps, and checkout stay yours. The agent is the layer that talks.
A flash-sale evening
A fashion or electronics store on Shopify:
- 20:03 — a customer asks if size M is left in Đà Nẵng. The agent checks inventory locations and answers yes, 4 left, cutoff for same-city delivery is 21:00.
- 20:18 — another customer pastes an order number; payment is
paid, fulfillment isunfulfilledbecause the warehouse scan failed. The agent does not invent a tracking code. It tells the customer the order is confirmed and alerts warehouse. - 21:40 — staff get one digest: 7 orders waiting on a missing size, 2 addresses that look incomplete.
Shopify remains the store. The agent keeps people from living inside the admin all night.
Hard limits
- No silent refunds, no price edits, no publishing products the merchandiser did not approve.
- Inventory writes, if any, should be audited.
- If you sell on Shopee or a local channel as well, say so up front — the agent should not pretend Shopify is the only stock truth.
Why merchants work with Mon AI
Shopify apps cover a lot. They still do not know your warehouse cutoffs, your Vietnamese reply style, or which exceptions a junior staffer may close.
Through Mon AI, Tripical VN LLC builds the Shopify agent as outsourcing: your locations, your SLAs, your tone. If the store already runs on Shopify, the agent can take the questions that used to stall until morning.
